grayson's auntie kim is one of the zoo keepers at the cape may zoo. our family vacation down the shore is wrapping up so we thought a trip to see the animals was in order.
because we are super awesome and have kim as our inside connection we got to go down and see the giraffes (and a few mentally challeneged ostriches- no joke about the mental part, they really do have problems). she took us through those special "do not enter" gates down to their pen and brought out food so we could feed and pet them. it was pretty awesome. one was even so kind as to lick my head. yummy. i think out of everyone my dad was the one who enjoyed himself the most. seriously, he was having way too much fun.
grayson slept the entire time and woke up just as we were leaving. that did not stop us from taking a million pictures. they were bent down next to his head sticking their giant tongues inches away from his face (for those of you who are freaking out about the germs dont worry we all scrubbed up after and grayson was not exposed).
this is about the time where i would post some of those said "millions" of pictures we took. the ones that i wanted to frame and put in his jungle themed room. but guess what. there was NO memory card in the camera. too bad. so sad.
very disappointing.
we did get to pet and feed giraffes at the zoo though so all and all it was still good. maybe we can go back another time to get those photos, and maybe he will even be awake for it this time.

all wrapped up

I had heard of the popular slings and wraps and it seems like the people who use them love them. i wasnt sure if it was something i wanted to mess with. the slings didnt feel comfortable when i tried them on in the store and the moby seems complicated.
it became apparent that it was going to be a must because he wants to be held 24/7. who wouldn't.
i ended up getting the moby wrap. the loooong fabric was intimidating at first but it came with a book and turns out its not so hard and he seems to like it.
i don't use it daily but the few times i have used it its been helpful. it allows me to do some dishes and fold laundry while using both my hands. and it keeps him nice and close by

dolphins!
we took a little boat trip out to the ocean just off the cape may beaches. (when i say we i mean mark and i. buddy grayson will have to wait till next year for his sea legs) look what we found!
the seahorse
after seeing this thing pop up over and over on various blogs i figured it must be worth having. and i was right. at night he loves looking at it and listening to the music (this child LOVES music). the belly glows and that seems to be some kind of baby trance. the only problem is it lasts for about five minutes so i keep having to get up and push his belly to start it over again. he is grayson's sleeping buddy.

one of the people who surprised me the most when grayson came was my 18 year old brother. he takes such good care of him and is genuinely interested. i was really taken back, especially since when i told him i was having a baby his reaction was blank. totally blank. he nodded his head and stood there with his arms crossed.
he's crazy about him. its awesome.

so the new thing on the boardwalk seems to be fried oreos. my first though was- seriously!? it sounded disgusting.
of course we decided we just had to try them though. why buy them on the boardwalk when you can make your own though! a couple years ago for christmas i opened a box which contained a deep frier. okay i thought...i guess ill use this. then my sister announced that she was in fact the one who wanted to deep fryer. oops mom, oh well. we've used it a couple times though and seeing as it just so happened to be down the shore with us it seemed like a calling.
so here is our experiment.

you need some kind of batter, i hear you can use funnel cake mix, but pancake mix was what was in our cabinet so thats what we went with. we used a cup of bisquick, one egg and 1/4 cup milk. (it didnt seem like it would be thick enough but they puffed up in the fryer and it worked out fine)
throw them in the oil and let them sit a few minutes, then flip to the other side.
can you feel your arteries clogging?
let the paper towel soak up any excess oil
tada! they were actually very good and very disgusting all at the same time. if that makes any sense. you really can't eat more then one at a time though because it just sits in you like a brick and you feel rather repulsive. overall though i would say not too bad. considering what's in it though i wouldn't recommend having more then one a year. or maybe two.
good morning!

we've moved!
i finally got things together for a new blog. now that grayson is here i'm not really "waiting on july" anymore. i figured this was a good place to share pictures and stories so that everyone can keep up with us. he's already 6 weeks old and its amazing how fast the time has gone by. he has changed so much, this blog will document that.
if you enjoyed our other blog hopefully you will like this one too (don't forget to hit "follow" on the sidebar). thanks and enjoy our stories :)
